Along with being St David’s Day, March 1 is also World Book Day and MP Stephen Crabb is encouraging a daily ten-minute storytelling slot to help increase child literacy.
The ‘Support a Story’ campaign, backed by the Preseli Pembrokeshire MP, encourages parents and families to spend ten minutes reading with their children to boost child literacy levels and become the nation’s new habit.
Stephen Crabb MP said: “Reading for pleasure is one of life’s greatest joys, and encouraging today’s children to read and to fall in love with books at an early age is hugely important.”
“International research has shown that reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child’s academic success. So grab a book, get comfortable and spend ten minutes storytelling. It’ll be hugely beneficial and enjoyable.”
