Crabb backs Celtic Freeport to unleash green energy revolution
Commenting on the launch of the Celtic Freeport bid today, Preseli Pembrokeshire MP Stephen Crabb said:
“At the heart of this Freeport bid is a clear plan to unlock new economic growth and job opportunities for South West Wales. What makes this bid so strong is the partnership between two of Wales’s major ports who share a powerful vision for delivering new investment in low carbon energy and manufacturing.”
“The Celtic Freeport builds on the existing capabilities of Milford Haven and Port Talbot to unlock the potential of major new industries like floating offshore wind and hydrogen. The Freeport will help to build local supply chains close to the port sites, ensuring that the region captures the full economic value of the new developments.”
“With a strong focus on skills and training, the Freeport will bring a new generation of quality jobs to the region and help support the levelling-up of our communities.”
In the House of Commons today, Mr Crabb spoke about the Celtic Freeport bid and called on the Wales Office Minister to “throw his weight behind” the emerging floating offshore wind industry to help enhance UK energy security.
The Welsh Affairs Committee in Parliament, chaired by Stephen Crabb, has been taking evidence on floating offshore wind. Today the Energy Minister, Rt Hon Graham Stuart MP, was questioned by the committee on how to ensure this new industry can deliver clear economic benefits to Wales. The committee will take evidence from the Welsh Government Minister early next month.
