In the virtual workshop organised by Preseli Pembrokeshire MP Stephen Crabb on Friday afternoon (1st October), local charities, sports groups and good causes logged onto find out about funding opportunities available from People’s Postcode Lottery. Over 35 individuals representing groups across Pembrokeshire took part in the session which explored the types of projects and groups supported through People’s Postcode Lottery Community Programme Trust.
More than £10.6 million, raised thanks to People’s Postcode Lottery players, funded thousands of community groups and good causes across Britain last year. Thanks to changes to the charity lottery regulations by the UK Government and increasing support from players, over 3,500 grassroots organisations will receive a share of an almost £17 million funding pot in 2021.
Over £96,000 has already made a difference to many small, local good causes in Preseli Pembrokeshire and Lottery representatives on the workshop confirmed they are looking to support more applications from Pembrokeshire in this round of funding.
Following the workshop, Stephen Crabb MP is calling on anyone connected to sports groups, volunteer organisations and charities in the county to consider applying for a share from the newly boosted community grant pot.
Stephen Crabb MP said,
“I know the pandemic has been very difficult for many local charities, sports clubs and volunteer organisations in the county who just haven’t been able to fundraise in quite the same way for the past 18 months. By organising a People’s Postcode Lottery workshop in Pembrokeshire I wanted many people as possible to have access to the information that they need to apply for the £17 million grant scheme.”
He added,
“It was great to see so many organisations join the funding workshop and the feedback I’ve had has been really positive. It was a really informative session looking at the types of projects that that the Lottery supports and I hope that many will now be in a good position to apply.”
