Speaking on the Chancellor Phillip Hammond's Budget, Stephen Crabb MP said:
"This was a positive, balanced budget which contained practical measures to help families and businesses in Pembrokeshire. The decision to scrap Stamp Duty for first time buyers on property valued under £300,000 will mean that almost all first time buyers in Pembrokeshire will be exempt from this tax. This is a huge boost for young families looking to get on the housing ladder and will provide a shot in the arm to the local housing market.”
“I was pleased that the Chancellor also announced some changes to the way Universal Credit is being run. These are very much in line with the kind of suggestions put to me recently by local charities PATCH, Pathway Lettings and Shelter and which I have fed through to Ministers. Removing the seven waiting days before a claimant can apply for Universal Credit, along with the changes to support people with their rent payment when moving from Housing Benefit to Universal Credit, will make the benefit much more effective in supporting those who are unemployed or on low incomes.”
“Thanks to today’s Budget, the Welsh Government in Cardiff also gets a budget boost of an extra £1.2 billion. They have enormous freedom in the way they can spend this money. Withybush Hospital and local health services should be at the top of the list for any new spending by the Assembly in West Wales. The money is there and Pembrokeshire deserves its fair share.”
