Preseli MP Stephen Crabb has urged the Energy Minister to support the UK’s innovative wave and tidal stream potential.
In a letter signed by MPs from across the political divide, Energy Minister Claire Perry was encouraged to support marine energy companies in the Government’s upcoming Energy White Paper.
The Energy White Paper will update the Government’s strategy for the power sector and is an opportunity to bring forward a supportive policy framework for renewable marine energy.
Commenting on the cross-party letter, Mr Crabb said: “The UK is home to the world’s leading wave and tidal stream companies and Pembrokeshire has an important role to play in this sector. Wave and tidal energy has the potential to be a key contributor to the future energy mix – at a price competitive with other mainstream forms of low-carbon energy generation.
“Independent analysis has shown that the industry has the potential to deliver 12,000 jobs so it’s important the Government supports this sector in its upcoming White Paper.”
