Current Issues in Pembrokeshire

Milford Haven Waterway from the Air

The constituency of Preseli Pembrokeshire has existed since 1997 and has been represented by both Labour and Conservative Members of Parliament.

The current constituency takes it name from the Preseli Hills in the north of the constituency and incorporates two thirds of the county of Pembrokeshire.

The constituency is a mix of rural villages and hamlets, the three large towns of Milford Haven, Haverfordwest and Fishguard as well as Britain's smallest City, St Davids.

Tourism and agriculture are the main industries in the area along with the development of one of the UK's largest energy hubs based along the Milford Haven waterway.

Pembrokeshire County Council has its headquarters in Haverfordwest and the area's main Hospital is based at Withybush on the northern edge of the county town.

The summer months see an influx of visitors to the area to take advantage of the stunning scenery and the one hundred and eighty six mile long Pembrokeshire Coastal Path.

As a hard working constituency Member of Parliament Stephen comes into contact with a number of diverse issues and concerns.

Many of the issues raised by constituents fall under similar categories and the following pages detail Stephen's views on a number of key topics.

It should be remembered that a number of policy areas are now the responsibility of the Welsh Assembly. Stephen can represent your views to the relevant Minister but is unable to have any influence on changing Assembly Government policy or raising debate on devolved matters.
